Invest in your Bathroom

Did you know that the bathroom is one of the most valuable rooms in the house? Redesigning or refreshing your bathroom can increase the value of your house tremendously. Good quality wall and floor tiles are the most sought-after feature when people are looking at properties, followed by good sized features and sufficient lighting. Not all bathrooms will have the natural light that is required and placing beautiful, vintage lights will instantly add the perfect light while ensuring your bathroom is on trend.

Light Up Your Bathroom

Deciding on your bathroom lighting is an important factor to consider when designing the space, not only for the aesthetics of the room but also due to IP regulations which make waterproof lighting an essential in this room of the house. If you’re unsure which area you’d like to place a light and are considering the IP restrictions of a bathroom, our handy diagram below may help you. All of our lights are an IP20 rating but, we wanted to go one step further and provide stylish and beautifully designed lighting which can be placed in the more prominent areas of the bathroom. Our waterproof range of lighting are IP65, meaning you can place them in areas where water is projected or they’re likely to get wet, meaning you don’t have to sacrifice style.

As a stylist how has the interior of bathrooms changed through the last years?

The bathroom has become an increasingly important room in the home and now comes in second after the kitchen in terms of investment, on average people are spending in excess of £10k for a complete bathroom redesign. It’s easy to overlook the style potential of a bathroom when we consider how practical and necessary a space it occupies. Fortunately, consumers are looking for more than just function now but also treating the space as a place to showcase their style credentials. This is especially true of brassware, tiles, mirrors and bathroom lighting. The bathroom is often seen as an expensive place to redesign and refurbish, but with a little thought and preparation, and a few high-quality products and materials, it can be a space of elegance and relaxation. Industville offer an extensive range of stunning lights, at affordable prices and with exquisite finishes, they can be the perfect, finishing addition to any bathroom.

Where do you go to for inspiration from when having to style an interior?

To keep abreast of the latest interior trends which impact on current bathroom looks, I love going to trade shows and I’m forever scoping out interiors blogs, Instagram, Pinterest and interiors magazines in pursuit of the next new thing.

How difficult is it to find stylish waterproof lighting?

It’s very difficult! It’s great that you’ve designed a specific range of bathroom lighting as there isn’t a lot of choice for IP44 or IP65 rated lights which are suitable for use in bathroom zones close to the water source. Lighting schemes in bathrooms are so important in order to make the room multi-functional as you need both ambient and task lighting.

If you had to pick one of our lights, which would be your favourite?

It’s difficult to choose. I’ve used a number of Industville lights for my bathroom shoots including the Brooklyn lights and the Sleek Edison wall lights, but I’ve got my eye on the Brooklyn Flat Flush Mount and Bulkhead Oval Light for future projects!

What interior style do you believe Industville lights suit best?

I think these lights work really well in industrial or traditional style interiors. We’ve used the Sleek Wall Light in Pewter to contrast with the traditional lines of our Stow fitted furniture range, while the faceted glass Brooklyn lights looked great with our Halycon bathroom vanity. Ultimately, lighting in the bathroom elevates the room, gives it designer appeal and helps to set the tone for the overall look.

What are the up and coming bathroom trends for 2019?

With neutrals having dominated for the last few years, I think we will be seeing a lot more colour coming back into the bathroom. Blues, greens, and earth tones will feature, and we will likely see a play on light and dark as well as with steel greys and pale pastels making an appearance.

There are also micro trends such as using a mix of colours with contemporary wood finishes, coloured or mixed material basins and a resurgence of concrete and terrazzo. I love how versatile terrazzo is as a material, especially for picking up on accent colours- we’ve used it in quite a few R2 shoots this year, most notably our Contour shoot.

Generally, we’re seeing a stronger preference towards matte black, brass and white metals as a style statement, with bold designs across brassware and Crittall style shower enclosures. Industrial style bathroom lighting lends itself particularly well to this look.

Finally, there seems to be a continuous play on old and new in the latest bathroom trends, and transitional era bathroom furniture and brassware are especially popular. Our newest bathroom furniture collection, Halcyon, merges elements of traditional carpentry with simple styling and clean, unfussy lines, which worked so well styled with the Brooklyn wall light.
