What’s On Trend For 2019?

With only a few months left of 2018, we are looking at interior design trends for the new year. With velvet set to make a more significant comeback than previous years and interior designers looking to embrace the darker elements in kitchen design, we are looking forward to what is coming in the new year. If you’re thinking about redesigning your interior, get inspired with our low down of the top trends set to take over 2019.

Voluptuous Velvet

Long live velvet! The one material which screams opulence and luxury, velvet was a hit in the ‘70s and has been slowly creeping back into our interiors over the last few years; however, it’s set to make a more prominent return in 2019. With advanced technology, velvet material has come on leaps and bounds with the material being less likely to stain and softer than the yesteryears material.

Searches for velvet increased by 400% this year, with it now being the most searched for fabric. Currently available in more colours than ever, the luxurious fabric enables you to make a bold statement by the way in which the material brings richness to the colour. An emerald green plush sofa is the perfect furnishing to be the centre of attention in a room, however, if you’re hesitant to go all out, start small with a throw or pillow to accentuate this trend.

This vintage material contrasts perfectly with vintage lighting, whether you decide to opt for dark, mysterious colours or a softer colour palette; brass, pewter and copper lighting fixtures will work perfectly when placed with velvet.

Sleek Dark Kitchens

Kitchen design is set to take a mysterious turn, with designers seeing an increase of people asking for dark décor in their pantries. Searches for dark kitchens have increased by 90% in the past year with a focus on matte and powdered finishes. A splash of black or navy is the perfect way to refresh your space, whether this is a lick of matte paint on your cabinets or accessories, it’s all about contrasting your kitchen.

Dark colours have the ability to make a room feel smaller than it is, therefore if you have a small space, just a splash of dark tones on your worktops or appliances will work wonders while also ensuring you don’t create the illusion of a smaller room.

Kitchen lighting is an essential factor when redesigning your space and depending on the finish you want to achieve; will depend on which metallic colour you wish to choose. Copper and brass lights will make the darker colours pop while pewter lighting will add a more sophisticated vibe.

All Things Tropical

The tropical trend is showing no sign of slowing down, in 2019 we will see the trendy side of tropical making an appearance. Think more sophisticated and minimal rather than in your face, carnival brights. There will be more of a focus on green tones with neutral backdrops than the Hawaiian prints we’ve seen in previous years.

Don't be afraid to mix it up with the patterns you use, however, the more patterns you use, the more you should limit the colour palette you’re using to ensure your interior isn’t one big confusion! Brass-toned accessories complement tropical prints perfectly, and we’ll see a shift from the popular copper finish replaced with brass tones.

If you aren’t too sure on whether a tropical print is for you, why not just add a splash of colour into your interior? Our flex cables are the perfect way to add a subtle tropical hint without going overboard. Our darker coloured flex cables will complement our brass pendants perfectly, making them trendy and unique.

The Barely There Nude

Dare to go bare? Think peach, cappuccino and beige tones; nude tones are making a comeback! A neutral backdrop is a perfect canvas for you to put your stamp on your décor, and if you have a smaller area that lacks light, then neutral colours are the perfect way to open up the space and give it the light it lacks.

Interior is making a move away from the ever so popular grey tones we’ve seen in interiors the past few years, and in the new year we’ll see an increase in sandy coloured walls and furnishings. Glass lights add elegance and pure class to the nude look by keeping the neutral trend consistent throughout.

For the ultimate nude look, we will see a rise in bare lights in the new year. With interior designers utilising stand out, vintage bulbs instead of fancy lighting fixtures, for a subtle look that suits the nude trend. For the ultimate nude look select vintage bulbs that will complement your interior, with a pop of either brass, copper and pewter, if you’re feeling extra, why not combine the three!

Make A Patterned Statement

Playful patterns and contrasting styles are looking to forefront our décor in 2019. A statement pattern has the ability to create a warm, friendly atmosphere by creating a space that celebrates eccentric designs.

You can take a subtle approach by selecting a single pattern to add a pop of maximalism into your interior or go all out by contrasting different patterns against one another! A patterned tile can work wonders for your interior, whether this is on the floor, on worktops or the splashback. If you want to make an even bigger statement, our pewter and copper lights are the perfect addition to create a statement ceiling.
