Whilst the convenience of online shopping is undeniable, nothing beats going into a beautifully designed store and being totally immersed in the shopping experience. Industville are working closely with shop owners and retailers to create stores that focus not only on the products, but the shop interior as a whole, thus creating a rich experience for customers to enjoy.
By creating a welcoming and appealing environment, stores are creating a place that customers will naturally want to spend time in. Of course, lighting plays a huge part in this as no one wants to stay in a place that’s dark, gloomy and poorly lit. Lighting can improve nearly all aspects from leading customers into the store, to defining the overall store atmosphere.

As Marketa Rypacek, MD at Industville comments, “A person’s mood can be affected by lighting. Therefore, using lighting to create a pleasant atmosphere in store will lead to shoppers feeling happier, resulting in them having a more positive perception of the products within. It will also mean they want to stay longer in store and come back again, potentially leading to more purchases.”
Marketa continues, “Your showroom should tell your brand story, whilst also creating an immersive experience for customers. Lighting should complement the essence of the brand, for example if your company has a rich history you may wish to use fixtures with an authentic vintage look. Vintage fixtures and dome lights will also help to create an intimate, friendly feel. Don’t be afraid to mix and match fixtures throughout the store but keep in mind the overall look should match your brand identity.”
One of Industville’s recent projects involved working with a butcher’s shop. Their Old Factory Pendants were used to great effect over the counter, stylishly illuminating the meat displays. These high-quality pendants worked perfectly with the overall high-end feel of the shop, giving customers faith that the products inside are also of the highest quality. This is a great example where the surroundings actually help to increase the perceived value of the product itself.
With lighting playing such an important part in creating the retail experience, stores are best to take advice from a lighting specialist such as Industville, to ensure they get it just right. Industville’s experienced team have worked with a variety of stores from large well-known brands to smaller independent locals and are on-hand whatever the project.
