Interior is defined by the colour, layout and furniture of a space, with art often being an overlooked feature, whereas art is an important feature and has the ability to make a space feel vibrant and unique, it shouldn't be an afterthought and should be thoroughly thought about when designing every room. Uplifting a space, art creates inspiration and can make other colours pop in your interior, transforming a space completely. If you need a reason to include and invest in artwork for your interior, read on to find out why art in the home and business is important.
The Importance Of Art In Interior Design
Art is often treated as an afterthought and is left to finish off a space rather than as the basis of the interior. The colour of your walls can only say so much about personality whereas artwork has the ability to show off a great deal of your personality, by adding texture and depth into any interior. Artwork can be incorporated in many different ways; from paintings to pictures, sculptures to wall signs and posters to tapestries, from abstract to modern artwork, the opportunities are endless when thinking of sprucing up your walls with art.
Art is unique and an asset, focusing your time on searching for affordable yet original art rather than cheap alternatives is key for you to create a unique space that reflects your personality. All of our lights are handcrafted, uniquely designed and original, meaning they pair perfectly with unique artwork.

We’re seeing interior designers singing the praises of artwork in any space, with the inspiration it creates and an influx of influencers creating the perfect statement walls, we’ve seen a rise of people thinking more about what is featured on their walls rather than the colour of them.
Provide An Instant Colour Palette
With a growing amount of paint shades on offer, picking a colour palette that works with your personality can be a daunting experience. Our suggestion is to leave the paint testers in the store and invest your money wisely in artwork you love, and that will truly reflect your personality. Paintings have the ability to add an instant colour palette to your space; once you find a piece you love, it can be the inspiration for the rest of the room’s interior.

The first step once you’ve selected your original artwork is to pick out a few shades that have been used, choose which colour you want to be the main focus of the room and work the other shades around the dominant colour. Most of the time people work their interior around the main colour of the walls but selecting wall art as your main focal point allows you to dig deeper in what stance you want to take and think more about the overall picture instead.

How Important Is Lighting In Art?
Lighting has the ability to change a whole room, every room needs a different amount of lighting, from dimmer lights in the bedroom to create a relaxed atmosphere to task lighting in the kitchen to make cooking easier. Lighting is equally as important when making artwork your focus point in your interior.

Depending on the style of artwork you’ve opted for will depend on what sort of lighting you should incorporate, the perfect light adds depth to art and makes it more attractive in a space. Artwork tends to be 2D and can easily look flat and uninteresting in a room if it’s placed in a dully-lit area, lighting has the ability to give art life and creates the illusion of a 3D effect.
Creating A Focal Point
Now you’ve thought about the style of art you want to incorporate; it's time to think about what size of art to invest in. An oversized piece may look good in an open planned room, but when placing it in a small space can overtake and look awkwardly placed. You want to create a focal point and place artwork strategically on your walls when combined with the perfect light instantly brings character to any room.

Our Lights In Action At LARA
LARA is a well-resourced and highly professional atelier teaching the most important aspects of art; drawing, painting and sculpture. We’ve worked with LARA over the past few years, supplying the lights for three of their studio spaces, we spoke to LARA to discover why lighting is so important for them and why they choose Industville to light up their space.

Lighting is an important aspect in any interior, especially in spaces that require attention to detail, such as art workshops. How well do you think our lights work within your space?
They are lovely decoratively; they really suit the space as they form a spotlight which creates the perfect atmosphere and aesthetically pleasing space which allows students to create something spectacular.
How did our lights fit in with your project?
We needed lights that lit the palette and aisles equally, ensuring that the lights on artists weren’t too bright and that the colour temperature was correct as colour hues are essential for artists. For our live drawing workshops, the lights on the figures must give a good sense of form; therefore, we needed lights that created the perfect setting.
At Industville we are passionate about the artistic community, have our lights helped to make your artists’ projects shine?
We were very happy with our work with Industville, they worked with our tight schedule and were able to meet our constricted deadline. Industville helped to support our refit, and without donations, we may have had to temporarily close our studio and lost artists in the process.
We hope this blog has given you some interior inspiration and given you a reason to invest in unique and original artwork that can transform your space, whether in your home or business.
